#26 red spruce (Picea rubens Sarg.)
This provincial tree of Nova Scotia is a very common tree found in Maritimes. Red spruce could grow up to 25 m tall and about 300 years old. It is a typical component of mature forest in moist upland sites. Beware of red spruce so that you might avoid being fooled!! Hybrid of red spruce and black spruce does exist in forest floor. Its features are intermediate between these two speices.
