#19 trembling aspen
(Populus tremuloides Michx.)
Trembling aspen is a medium sized tree that is common in eastern forests. It can regenerate quickly in almost all sunny areas, and will grow fast. Though it is not of use for traditional lumber it can be used to make oriented strand board as well as pulp for use in making magazine stock. Trembling aspen gets its name from the characteristic noise made by the leaves when the wind blows. The leaves of aspen rustle because of the long thin leaf stalks.
