#8 yellow birch
(Betula alleghaniensis Britton)
Yellow birch is the largest birch in eastern Canada growing up to 25 meters tall, and is the provincial tree of Quebec. The wood from yellow birch is used for furniture, cabinets, flooring, doors veneer and plywood. It is an important species in eastern Canada as it is a key source of hardwood lumber. In years past the wood from yellow birch was sought after for use in shipbuilding, ox yokes and even wheel hubs.
